How to Play Checkpoint Chess

Objective: The primary goal is to capture the opponent's King. However, traditional checkmate is not an instant win. Victory is achieved under specific conditions related to King capture and control over the majority of checkpoints.

Basic Gameplay:

• Standard chess rules apply for piece movement and captures.
• The game includes timers for each turn. Running out of time forfeits your turn.

Checkpoints & Powers:

• Double time Space (Gold): Land a piece on a central square (D4, E4, D5, E5 or their equivalents) to become eligible to move into this checkpoint on your next turn. Occupying this checkpoint doubles your time limit for that turn. You can exit to any empty central square.
• Double Move Space (Green): Land on specific entry squares (marked on the board) to enter this space. While your piece occupies this checkpoint, you gain a "Double Move" power for your subsequent turns, allowing you to move a single piece twice in one turn. This power is lost if your piece leaves the space or if the second move is forfeited.
• Swap Power Space (Turquoise): Land on specific entry squares to enter this space. While your piece occupies this checkpoint, you gain a "Swap Power". On a subsequent turn, you can activate this power to swap one of your pieces with any of your pieces on the board, excluding pieces in special spaces.

Winning the Game:

• King Capture with Dominance: Capture the opponent's King AND control at least two checkpoints (Double Time, Double Move, or Swap Space).
• King Capture with No Successor: Capture the opponent's King, and they have no Queen or Bishop on the board to be promoted to a new King.
• If a King is captured but the above conditions aren't met, the opponent must choose a Queen or Bishop on the board to become their new King. If no such piece exists, the game ends.

Pawn Promotion:

Pawns reaching the opposite end of the board can be promoted to a Queen, Rook, Bishop, or Knight.

Multiplayer Mode:

• Create a game room and share the Room ID with a friend to play online.
• Both players must click "Ready" to start the game.
• All the same rules apply in online play as in local play.
